WHAT TO EXPECT HOME   ::   CONTACT

It's not Easy Visiting a Church.

Visiting a church can be frightening. Will I feel out of place? Will I know what to do? Will my children like it? Will they be safe and cared-for? Will I be asked to give money? How should I dress? Is it okay if I don't believe what everyone else seems to believe?

These are good questions. We've done our best to make church as user-friendly as possible, whether you are a long-time church-goer, or this is your first time.

Here's what you can expect.

When & Where We Meet

We meet Sunday mornings at 10 AM at Allen at Steinbeck Elementary School, at 820 Steinbeck Drive in South San Jose (southeast of the intersection of Blossom Hill and Santa Teresa).  [Click here to see a map].

From the north, take the 87 freeway south until it drops you off on Santa Teresa. Continue south on Santa Teresa past Blossom Hill and take your next left (Steinbeck Drive). The school is down on your right.

From the north west, take the 85 freeway south and get off on the Santa Teresa exit. Turn right on Santa Teresa, go past Blossom Hill and take your next left (Steinbeck Drive). The school is down on your right.

From further south, take the 85 freeway north and get off on the Santa Teresa exit. Turn right on Santa Teresa, go past Blossom Hill and take your next left (Steinbeck Drive). The school is down on your right.

There is parking right in front of the school on Steinbeck Drive. From there you can enter the front of the school. You can also go to the end of Steinbeck Drive, turn right on Allen, and find more parking. From there you can enter the back of the school.

At either entrance there should be some friendly people to say hello, hand you a program of what will be happening that morning, and answer any questions you have.

Kid's Church

Our Kid's Church classes will all be listed in the program you receive (plus you can ask our Greeters about any questions you might have). Newborns through 6 year-olds have classes that start right at 10 AM. First through Fifth Graders have classes that start after the music part of the service.

In these classes your children will be loved. They will be taught from the Bible about who God is and His care for them. They will be taught about how they can know God through trusting Jesus. They will have a craft to build and take home with them. They will have a lot of fun!

The Service

One thing you will notice is that people are dressed comfortably -- even casually. Our services involve lively and heart-felt worship in song, led by gifted musicians. Most of our music is contemporary with a pop/rock feel. But we also sing some ancient hymns, because they connect us with believers who have lived in the past, and they affirm powerful truth.

We also have teaching from the Bible that is practical and thought-provoking. At the end of the service there will be prayer for the congregation and, if you are interested, you can have the opportunity to receive further prayer from a team of people trained to pray in a loving, effective way. And somewhere in the service we take an offering, although we hope that visitors don't feel any pressure to give, but that they can see themselves as our guests.

Our goal is that through the music, the teaching, and the prayer time you would be able to personally connect with God and experience His love and mercy through Jesus.

Communion

Every third Sunday during the service we celebrate Communion together. This is an ancient tradition established by Jesus as a way to remember His death for us. It is a powerful time of worshiping Him for His mercy, confessing our sins, and receiving His forgiveness. If you are a follower of Jesus, we invite you to join in. Otherwise, you can sit back and enjoy the music. Either way it can be a time where you powerfully meet God.

After the Service

Our services run about an hour and a half, and we think you will find them to be a powerful and life-giving. After the service, many people stick around and make new friends and catch up with old ones. Sometimes there's coffee and bagels and the like. If you have children, that's when you pick them up from kidŐs church.

We hope you will stop by for a visit. If you do, please come up and say "hi." There are many excellent churches in the area. Whether you end up in ours or another church -- what we long for is that you find a church that helps you come into the joy of knowing Jesus.
